Solon is a city in Cuyahoga County that is a suburb of Cleveland. More than 23,000 people reside in the 20 square miles of land that make up Solon. Solon has a strong economy and in 2013 was granted a Google eCity award, recognizing it as the city with the strongest online business community in Ohio.
In 1820 the first settlers arrived to Solon from Connecticut. The township was named after Lorenzo Solon Bull. Early Solon settlers faced challenges from drainage and wetlands that complicated agriculture and settlement. Persevering through these obstacles Solon became a farming area producing corn, wheat and dairy farms. Solon was one of the first cities to use a comprehensive zoning plan and has been able to achieve a strong industrial base.
